4/7/08 AIC Produces New Video, Broken Borders
AIC's new video, Broken Borders, provides graphic and shocking images of an unsecured and unprotected America. The narration notes that Mexican military and police have violated our borders more than 200 times during the past decade. Chilling footage then reveals one of these episodes, Mexican soldiers-without provocation-opening fire on American civilians. The sound track records the shots fired at them.
AIC is showing this video to congressmen and staffers to make the case for deploying U.S. troops and National Guard on the border. Opponents can no longer claim that border control should be purely a civilian task with these incursions taking place. Certainly a primary purpose of our military is to keep foreign soldiers off our soil.
The film also reveals the far-from-adequate fencing recently constructed on the border, as well as other problems. The Bush Administration says that we have made great progress in controlling the border and protecting our homeland. Be that as it may, Broken Borders clearly reveals that we have a long way to go. Order this video, and show it to friends, family and clubs. Americans need to see what is happening. To order, write or call AIC (540) 468-2023. We accept Visa and MasterCard. Price: $12.00. Length: 10 minutes.
McCain Trying to Stop SAVE Act?
The SAVE Act, H.R. 4088, offers needed enhancements to immigration law enforcement, particularly its provision to enable employers to check the legal status of their employees. The bill has strong bipartisan support and 185 of 217 signatures on a discharge petition to take it out of committee and bring it to the House floor for a vote.
The movement toward discharge has slowed, however, and the sponsor of the SAVE Act, Rep. Heath Shuler (D-NC), places blame on Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). In a speech in his home district, Shuler charged that McCain called House Republicans and asked them not to sign the petition. A spokesman for McCain denied the charge.
Poll Shows Many Don't Know Candidates' Stances
A Pulse Opinion Research Poll done for the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) found that primary and caucus voters often had little idea of how the three leading presidential candidates stood on immigration. As CIS summarized its findings, "Only 34 percent of McCain voters, 42 percent of Clinton voters, and 52 percent of Obama voters correctly identified their candidate as favoring eventual citizenship for illegal immigrants who meet certain requirements."
Casting doubt on the claim that McCain's victories reflect Republican support for his liberal immigration views, the poll found that 35 percent of his supporters mistakenly believed that he wants stepped up enforcement to encourage illegal aliens to go home. Ten percent mistakenly believed that he wants mass deportations, and 21 percent had no idea what his position was.
The CIS summary observed that "Whoever wins the presidency will face significant opposition to giving eventual citizenship to illegal immigrants. Just 25 percent of Republicans and 50 percent of Democratic primary/caucus voters said they would support such an effort."
