For at least the past dozen years, the liberal establishment has been pushing the propaganda theme of "political correctness", whose purpose is to silence all opposition to their revolutionary left-wing agenda for big government. The liberal/left can more easily achieve their goals if the core American voting bloc is diluted by numerous diverse alien voting blocs, especially those who speak little or no English. The votes of such ethnic groups are readily purchased with promises of government assistance of one kind or another.

The greater the number of aliens allowed to migrate to the United States each year, the faster the left-liberal agenda is implemented. In order to gain American voters' acceptance of ever-increasing numbers of immigrants, the liberal purveyors of "political correctness" repeat the mantra that ethnic diversity (i.e. multi-culturalism) is the source of America's strength. Anyone who disagrees with the "strength through diversity" lie is quickly labeled a: bigot, nativist, racist, and/or narrow-minded conservative who can't see the big picture.

Fortunately for the American people, there are some big cracks in the "politically correct" "strength through diversity" liberal lie of beneficial multi-culturalism.

The truth is that ethnic diversity causes disunity not strength.

A perfect example of clashing cultures causing disunity occurred recently in Florida when Sultaana Freeman, a Muslim woman, refused to remove her veil for her drivers' license photograph. She challenged the requirement of Florida's Department of Motor Vehicles that she remove her veil for the photo, complaining that it violated her constitutional right to freely practice her religion. The State argued that it had a "compelling interest" in identifying its drivers, and a Florida judge agreed with the State.

The New York Times reported that Sultaana, supported by Muslim organizations, rejected the judge's decision because it threatened "religious liberty".

Also, according to The Times, "...what still puzzled Kahled Abou el Fadl, a professor of Islamic law at the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law who had been a witness for the government, was why it had been so difficult to get any other Muslims to admit that the government had a plausible case."

Fadl, as the State's witness and a Muslim lawyer, was shocked into disbelief that the greater Muslim community and Muslim organizations not only supported Sultaana Freeman but also questioned Fadl's orthodoxy as a Muslim. He said their attack upon him was "bizarre" concluding that the American Muslim culture seemed to be demanding absolute loyalty to an extreme position.

It is strikingly apparent from this recent case that the cultural differences of orthodox Muslims will only weaken, not strengthen America for they intend to change America, not assimilate. The "politically correct" crowd had better invent a new lie.

Another example of how diverse cultures clash and cause disunity rather than harmony and strength occurred in Maryland in late July when a Baltimore County policeman shot and killed a 22 year old Honduran immigrant named Francisco Perez. The Honduran, holding a knife in one hand and an 18 inch screw driver in the other approached the policemen who identified himself and said "stop" and "drop the knife." Perez did not drop his weapons and approached to within 5-10 feet of the officer who shot him in the chest.

According to the Baltimore Sun, "some neighbors, friends and Latino community activists feel that if the officers in Essex [Baltimore County] had spoken Spanish, the death of Francisco Perez may have been avoided. But the activists also said that they welcome any training that could help diffuse confrontations between non-English-speaking residents and police officers."

Larry Ortiz, a Latino activist in Baltimore County and professor at the University of Maryland said, "the tragedy of this is that a phrase or two in Spanish could possibly have circumvented the situation." What the Latino community and their activists want is for America's police officers to learn foreign languages in order to accommodate foreign criminals.

Another Baltimore Latino activist, Angelo Solers, complained, "training can prevent many of these situations. We have a person who should not be dead. Police officers have a responsibility to minority communities."

In truth, the responsibility lies with the activist leaders in those minority communities who should make sure that new immigrants learn English, the language of our country. But, not one of the Latino activists interviewed suggested that immigrants should be able to speak basic English. Not one of the activists suggested that Perez should not have been moving menacingly — with a weapon in each hand — towards the police officer.

It is of interest to note that, contrary to the well-publicized statements of the activists, two witnesses revealed that Perez did speak English. If this is true, then Perez no longer is a misunderstood immigrant, as the activists claim, but just a garden-variety criminal alien.

The Perez incident emphasized the clash of cultures that occurs when immigrants refuse to learn and speak English and instead demand that the American culture be sacrificed on the altar of "political correctness".

In a recent essay, Wichita State University Professor Dwight D. Murphy candidly assessed the crisis facing America due to the clash of cultures resulting from uncontrolled immigration. In Out of Ashes: America's Renewal? Murphy wrote, "the ideas that formed the American tradition have been under attack for several generations, and for forty years there has been a 'culture war'...that has changed our way of life and undermined the norms by which we used to live."

Murphy lamented the fact that the atrocities of September 11 made him "fatalistic, though by no means indifferent, about America's future. I didn't see any way the United States could survive as a nation given the forces that seemed irresistible and that were driving Americans toward national suicide."

Professor Murphy reasons that America's survival is severely threatened by the "...demographic invasion Americans have permitted since 1965 and were continuing to allow. 'Multiculturalism' has become the regnant ideology, forced on the people as a whole by the opinion forming class that holds the society so much in its grip."

"The United States would clearly become a Yugoslavia of discordant ethnicities with little memory of the meaning this country has had for past generations."

"Racial and ethnic militancy and separatism...grow as a source of internal conflict..."

America's future is not threatened only by foreign terrorist attacks but also by the ever-increasing clash of cultures resulting from ethnic diversity, the political objective of our liberal immigration laws which overwhelmingly favor immigrants from non-European countries. This is the big picture which the elitist liberal/left does not want the average American to understand. Ultimately their agenda to import controllable ethnic voting blocs will cause the United States to fragment further and eventually self-destruct.

Over the past decade, approximately 15 million legal immigrants have entered this country. The immediate and necessary solution to this development is to suspend legal immigration until illegal immigration is stopped. This can be effectively accomplished by the passage of H.R. 946 which establishes a 5 year moratorium on immigration.

Concerned citizens must support H.R. 946, offered by representative Tom Tancredo and several other House members. It offers, perhaps, the only realistic chance to avoid national suicide.

They Speak With Forked Tongues

"EMBRACE PEACE AND PROSPERITY - NOT WAR, RECESSION AND POVERTY" screamed the massive headline of a full page ad in the January 7, 2003 New York Times. This expensive ad, placed by the Center For Community Change, said, "We call on President Bush and Congressional leaders not to unleash war on the people of Iraq but instead to spend those resources to alleviate poverty, protect our environment...and end the economic instability in our nation. A war in Iraq is estimated to cost from $9-200 billion.... Meanwhile, the sluggish economy and rising unemployment are hurting working and poor families here at home. Median income for working families in the U.S. dropped by approximately 2.2% in 2001 and further losses could take place."

Then were listed some mighty impressive and startling statistics:

• 41.2 million Americans lack health insurance...
• 32.9 million Americans now live in poverty...
• 13 million children in the U.S. live in families without an adequate supply of food...
• 9.6 million Americans are without jobs...
• Over 3 million people experience homelessness in the U.S. each year.
• Approximately 133 million people in the U.S. live in counties where residents breathe unhealthy air at times because of at least one air pollutant...

"How can we talk about Homeland Security when millions don't have homes...?"

As part of the ad, the Center For Community Change listed the names of hundreds of supporters - individuals, organizations, and churches. Hollywood liberal-types like Danny Glover, Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon are listed; but the sponsor which really caught my attention was the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, CA.

This group supports the liberalization of our immigration laws - laws already so liberal that tens of millions of immigrants have come into the United States during the last 20 years. And millions more come each new year!

The obvious question for the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, CA as well as for all the other sponsors of this ad is: why don't they supporting a full moratorium on immigration until those problems which they so carefully enumerated are solved?

Why aren't those ad sponsors speaking out against proposed amnesty for millions of illegal aliens who are already in America and who are helping cause the problems listed in the ad?

If the Center for Community Change and The National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, CA and the other signers are truly concerned about 133 million Americans breathing pollutants, then they should join Americans For Immigration Control in seeking a temporary moratorium on all immigration until the very serious problems of poverty, pollution, homelessness and hunger, are solved.

If the signers of the ad, including the National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development, DC, are truly concerned that "9.6 million Americans are without jobs," then they will oppose all legal and illegal immigration to the U.S. until jobless American citizens have jobs, homeless American citizens have homes, and starving American citizens - adults as well as children - have food.

Immigrants - legal as well as illegal - are the major cause for the "median income for working families in the U.S. dropping by approximately 2.2% in 2001." The signers of the ad are rightly concerned about that loss of purchasing power in working families and so they should join with AIC in our efforts to save working Americans from further income losses by stopping the tidal waves of immigrants inundating the U.S. By 2001, the net cost of legal and illegal immigration to American taxpayers on Federal, State, and local levels combined had reached $80 billion a year! And that staggering figure does not include the environmental costs or lost wages of American workers whose jobs were taken by lower-paid immigrants. For every 100 illegal immigrants who find jobs in the U.S., 65 American citizen workers are displaced.

AIC firmly believes that America is worth saving from the terrorists who bomb us, from the smugglers who flood our country with drugs, from the criminal aliens who fill our prisons, from the illegal aliens who lower wage levels, and from all the immigrants - legal and illegal - who crowd our schools, abuse our welfare system, and pollute our air.

AMERICA IS WORTH SAVING and so we at AIC invite the signers of the "Peace and Prosperity" ad and all other Americans to join us in our efforts to stop uncontrolled immigration, the root cause of the enumerated problems.

Charity begins at home.

We must solve the problems of our citizens before we try to solve the solve the problems of foreigners.

Homeland Insecurity

Several decades ago, as a congressional staff investigator, I was privileged to sit in on a confidential briefing by a senior Taiwanese intelligence officer who warned, "Westerners, for the most part, are unable to fathom the inscrutable Oriental mind, because it is many layered and so complex that ultimate objectives are hidden. Americans in particular because they are so open minded and want to be loved by everyone will be easily deceived by the Chinese communists."

The record, of course, is clear - Clinton was an easy mark for Red China (ironically named the People's Republic of China). For a paltry million dollar donation for Clinton's re-election, they bought easy access to the Clinton oval office, secret military briefings, and advanced missile guidance systems. But, that's yesterday's news.

Today's news is more of the same. On January 10th of this year, Qing Chang Jiang was charged in a San Jose CA federal court with illegally exporting to Red China advanced microwave amplifiers used in the design of missile guidance systems. And this is far from an isolated case!

Five years ago (Jan 28, 1998) former FBI director Louis Freeh told the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee, "Press reports of recent espionage cases involving...China are just the tip of a large and dangerous intelligence iceberg. In addition to...covert intelligence operations run by intelligence officers...the FBI...encounter covert activity on the part of...visiting scientists or foreign businessmen...." The Clinton-Gore administration systematically co-operated with the Red Chinese granting temporary visas to 315,536 Chinese in 2000. It is estimated that another 200,000 Chinese aliens entered illegally during that time.

Last year, veteran intelligence and political analyst Dr. Roger Canfield published China's Trojan Horses, his fourth thoroughly researched book on the Red Chinese breech of U.S. security and intelligence.

Dr. Canfield explains his deep concern: "today I would argue that the China threat is far greater than the wildest hallucinations of the madmen running the terrorist network. While terrorists infiltrated America with several score agents, the Red Chinese may very well have placed thousands of potential agents in American universities, research centers, nuclear labs, silicon valleys, defense industries, and military bases. Already Red Chinese agents, government officials, workers, students, and visitors have gained intimate knowledge of our technologies and our most critical infrastructures... (communications, computers, bridges, dams, power plants, transmissions lines etc.)." The only reason North Korea poses a threat today is because it has been sustained and supplied by Red China since the Korean War. This makes North Korea a virtual client state of Red China.

"Red China has forward deployed elements of its intelligence and military assets into the U.S. homeland," writes Canfield. "Its sailors roam strategic U.S. seaports. Its soldiers observe U.S. military facilities and exercises. Its scientists visit and work in U.S. factories, research labs and universities. Its officials take notes and photos of the technical and structural vulnerabilities of critical infrastructures - water power and communications." The author explains that Red China's intelligence-gathering in our major port cities adjacent to key U.S. naval bases is facilitated by the China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO), a Red Chinese government enterprise which has 600 ships worldwide of which 100 call on 15 U.S. ports from Seattle to LA to Miami, to Norfolk, to Boston weekly. These are container-ships, only 2% of which are inspected by U.S. customs. One of those rare inspections uncovered a huge COSCO container with thousands of AK47 rifles destined for street gangs in America! Our homeland is insecure!

Certainly no conservatives were surprised about Clinton's sell out to the Red Chinese; he is what the Chinese would describe as a "yellow running dog." i.e. an unscrupulous errand boy for sale. But there are many others who fit in that category. For instance, Dr. Canfield points out that "retired General Alexander M. Haig, Jr. [is] a COSCO advisor...the former Secretary of State and Presidential Chief of Staff has been paid [as a] 'domestic and overseas senior advisor' to COSCO."

Equally disturbing are Dr. Canfield's revelations about Democrat California Senator Dianne Feinstein and President Bush's Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao. "At the urging of Chao, Chinagate figure John Huang made a $2000 contribution to her husband Sen. McConnell (R-KY)." Chinese-American human rights advocate Harry Wu observed, "I worry about Elaine Chao's business relationship with Communist China. [She] has a significant shipping business through her father" whose ships trade with Red China.

Feinstein "began her friendly relationship with COSCO in the late 1970s" writes Canfield. "As mayor of San Francisco, Feinstein pleaded with COSCO to dock at San Francisco...Richard Blum, Feinstein's wealthy husband had a business partner, Peter Kwok. Blum and Kwok had a $100 million China investment venture...Blum's partner sat on the Board of COSCO's Hong Kong arm."

Dr. Canfield discusses the U.S. mega-billion dollar trade imbalance with Red China, "The U.S. imports Chinese toys, games, sporting goods, apparel, computers...The U.S. exports its high technology to the Chinese military...and exports its jobs to China..."

On February 2nd of this year, the United States supposedly started to enforce the strict new security rules that had been mandated on 12/2/02. In response to 9/11 and despite complaints from the Chinese shippers, the new rules were drafted so as to reduce the possibility that a nuclear bomb or other bulky weapon might be commercially shipped to the United States.

What are the new security measures? According to a January 26 New York Times report from Hong Kong, "Exporters will have to provide detailed cargo manifests 24 hours before a ship sails [for the United States] or face steep fines and even a possible ban on the unloading of the ship at any American port." To review the manifests is a daunting task but the only way to insure homeland security is to physically inspect each of those 40 foot long containers! Hong Kong send 6,000 containers a day to America and with a current inspection rate of 2%, the chance of discovering weapons of mass destruction is almost zero.

Our homeland is insecure and Red China is a major reason not only because of the millions of containers they ship to the U.S. every year but also because Communist China's sailors, soldiers, scientists, students and others have ready access to our ports, our military bases, our research labs, our universities and our factories.

America is worth saving but half measures and 2% solutions won't work!

Take Off The Blinders

Nothing is more frustrating to those of us in the immigration battle than the elected official who refuses to admit that many of today's immigrants will ultimately undermine our unity, freedoms and rule of law because not only will they never assimilate, they will not even tolerate our language or our culture. These politicians wear politically correct (PC) blinders which cause them to suffer from the self-imposed destructive delusion that these legal immigrants and illegal aliens represent future voters - up for grabs to whichever political party promises them the most loot extracted from the taxpayers' pockets. Sooner or later the diversity of cultures so admired by the PC party hacks will Balkanize America and bankrupt the economy.

Currently there is an outsized effort from the PC crowd in Washington to force feed Americans with the notion that Muslims are "just like us - very peace loving and tolerant." Unfortunately, it would seem that President Bush has succumbed to the idea because in his State of the Union address, he spoke of Islam and its rich history of "centuries of tolerance." As he spoke those words, he smiled at one of his special guests, Afghanistan's interim chairman Hamid Karzai, who just a few days earlier had readily admitted that in the new "tolerant 'Afghanistan, Islamic law will be strictly enforced, "thieves will have their hands cut off and adulterers [women only] will be stoned [to death]."

In America, Muslims are building Mosques and opening schools at a rapid rate, mostly financed by the government of Saudi Arabia. Week after week, Arab imams proselytize amongst incarcerated criminals and win hundreds of dedicated converts.

And just how does a dedicated Muslim relate to America and its culture?

John Fonte, senior fellow with the Hudson Institute, wrote a November 8, 2001 policy paper Americanization Now in which he examines the question of assimilation. "As lawmakers begin to discuss major changes in the structure and mission of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), it becomes increasingly evident that America has a civic-assimilation problem. Briefly put a sizeable number of new immigrants and their children may be bettering themselves economically and speaking English but not embracing American identity and patriotism. Thus the Washington Post interviewed a middle-class Muslim American immigrant family from New Jersey and reported that, 'For Kahf and her husband - taxpayers, registered voters, law-abiding citizens - assimilation is not a goal.'

"The Post article stated that Kahf (who came to the U.S. from Syria when she was twelve, 17 years ago) would soon graduate from Seton Hall law school. However, this well-educated woman opposes America's war efforts against Taliban in Afghanistan and declared 'throughout history' Muslims 'will always be separate.' Empirical evidence suggests that Kahf's views are not unique. In what Islamic expert Daniel Pipes had described as 'perhaps the most sophisticated study to date of Muslims in the United States Competing Visions of Islam in the United States: A Study of Los Angeles an Iranian doctoral student at Harvard, Kambiz Ghaneabassiri, found that only 1 of 10 Muslim immigrants that he surveyed feel more allegiance to the United States than to a foreign country."

Fonte also notes that similar studies have discovered that the percentage of patriotic assimilation by immigrant teen-agers decreased after four years in an American high school! These startling findings should be wake up calls for our elected officials who must take off their politically correct blinders and, for the sake of the country, significantly reduce the flood of immigrants to manageable levels.

In America more and more partisan politicians are putting on the blinders, but in Europe more and more politicians are taking them off. The New York Times of Jan 30, 2002 reported, "From Spain to Scandinavia, European politics is drifting to the right. As the economy slows political parties stressing law and order and stricter controls on immigration are gaining ground and mainstream conservative politicians are becoming more popular." The Arab-Muslim population in France is growing ten times faster than the native French population and within several decades Muslims will be the majority ethnic/religious group.

If present immigration policy is not reversed very soon, the Muslim problem threatening Western Europe today will threaten America tomorrow. Only those wearing PC blinders are so foolish as to deny the possibility of a jihad should the number of Muslims in America reach critical mass. In late January, U.S. officials sent an emergency alert warning of "an already planned attack" against the U.S. involving three alien terrorist cells (already in America) which are trying to recruit non-Arabs to take part in the attacks.

The dedication of the Muslim to remake the world in the image of Islam is recounted in the January 27 New York Times report from Pakistan, "Little in the manner of Ijaz Khan Hussein betrays the miseries he saw as a volunteer in the war in Afghanistan.

"Mr. Khan, a college-trained pharmacist, joined the Jihad, or holy war, like thousands of other Pakistanis who crossed over into Afghanistan.

"He worked as a medical orderly near Kabul, shuttling to the front lines, picking up bodies and parts of bodies...

"Now with the Taliban and Al Qaeda routed, have Mr. Khan and other militants [i.e. dedicated Muslims] finished with the holy war?

"Mr. Kahn, at least says he has not.

"We went to the jihad filled with joy, and I would go again tomorrow. If Allah had chosen me to die, I would have been in paradise, eating honey and watermelons and grapes, and resting with beautiful virgins, just as it is promised in the Koran..."

Keep in mind the words of Kahf, the Muslim lawyer in New Jersey, "Assimilation is not a goal. Throughout history [Muslims] will always be separate." Ultimately, they intend to dominate a nation, or die in the attempt.

Unless our lax immigration policies are realistically corrected and immigration reduced to manageable levels, the Statue of Liberty will be replaced by a Statue of Mohammed.

Politically correct blindness has got to go!

America's Grave Diggers

In Phoenix, at a late June conference of Latino elected and appointed officials, a host of Democrat presidential wannabes showed up and behaved like a group of groveling grave diggers as they offered to buy votes by burying America's future.

Senator Joe Lieberman, of the failed Gore-Lieberman ticket, said, "It's time we stand up to the president and his allies" for promoting a "racial privacy initiative" in California. "No mas, No mas" [i.e. enough...enough] screeched Lieberman in his patently self-serving use of Spanish.

Massachusetts Senator John Kerry, who has latched onto the late Senator Heinz's very wealthy widow, said he had a brilliant plan to allow Hispanic immigrants a less costly way to exporting U.S. dollars to friends and families in Mexico and elsewhere. Presumably his clever plan - whatever it is - would also assist U.S.-based Islamic fund-raisers when they send dollars to their favorite Middle East terrorist charity!

After accusing Bush of turning his back on Mexico and Latin America, Senator Bob Graham of Florida promised his Latino audience that he would support a "more humane" immigration policy. This suggests that Graham would give amnesty to the millions of illegal Hispanic aliens already in the United States and open the U.S. border to Mexico so that 20 or 30 million more Mexicans could enter "legally". What Graham is proposing is not a "more humane" but a "more insane" immigration policy!

As the Democrat presidential wannabes in Arizona plotted to seize control of the White House with illegal immigrant votes the way Clinton did in 1996, the Democrats in California were trying to figure out a way to keep the Governor's mansion on the historic recall referendum scheduled for October 7 when incumbent Gray Davis faces the wrath of the voters. At a recall celebration rally on July 26th, Roger Hedgecock, San Diego's former mayor and currently a popular conservative radio talk show host, proclaimed that because of the recall machinery, "People have a new avenue to take back government."

New York Times reporter, Dean E. Murphy, noted, "the rally, much like the recall itself, reached beyond the conservative Republicans to a broad class of politically disaffected in a state dominated by the Democratic Party."

Left unsaid is the reason why California, which elected Republican Ronald Reagan to the governorship for two terms and then helped send him to the White House, has now become a Democrat stronghold. Immigrants, legal and illegal, have caused the radical change in the state's politics. Although unacknowledged by Democrats, those same aliens have been the major cause of California's projected $38 billion budget deficit by flooding the public schools, overburdening the hospitals, and exhausting the welfare system. (A New York Time/CBS News poll of July 13-27 found that 75% of Hispanics favor big government.) Governor Davis gave Californians big government and the accompanying big debt. That enormous cloud of debt hanging over the taxpayers of California was the primary reason for the huge success of the recall signature-gathering effort.

Los Angeles County has an estimated 1.1 million illegal alien residents and county Sheriff Lee Baca had to close facilities and give early-release to non-violent offenders in order to close a 2 year, $170 million budget gap. According to Baca, a large part of that deficit comes from the incarceration of illegal alien lawbreakers who constitute 25% of the county's inmates.

Sheriff Baca mused, "The Feds keep dreaming about controlling the borders. But is it a reality or a myth? It doesn't look like a reality and the local taxpayer suffers."

Actually the whole country suffers.

Even the liberal National Academy of Sciences has concluded that the fiscal impact of an immigrant with less than a high school education costs the economy $13,000 over his lifetime.

And, most of the millions of illegals tend to fall into that category.

America is worth saving and we need serious immigration restrictions and reform in order to guarantee the safety and security of our future.

George Bush Expresses His Inconsistent Immigration Opinions To AIC

Before the November 2000 elections, AIC sent letters to Governor George W. Bush and Vice President Al Gore expressing the concerns of AIC and its members about the immigration crisis - both legal and illegal. We received no reply from Al Gore but we did receive a letter from George W. Bush in which he spelled out his inconsistent views on immigration.

For instance, on the one hand Bush states, "Of course, I continue to be strongly opposed to illegal immigration." On the other hand, he favors last year's amnesty for illegal aliens, "On the issue of amnesty as it relates to the Latino and Immigrant Fairness Act of 2000 - I support efforts to provide relief to those immigrants who were wrongly denied adjustment of status under the 1986 legislation, but [I] do not support a blanket amnesty at this time."

What else did this carefully crafted letter reveal about George Bush?

First, the 1986 amnesty for some 3 million illegal aliens (which AIC vigorously opposed) did not "wrongly" deny amnesty to any illegal alien. It was a gratuitous gift to those aliens who, for several years, had successfully evaded detection and escaped deportation! When such terminology is used by Bush - or anybody for that matter - the phrase "wrongly denied adjustment of status" in reference to the liberal 1986 amnesty, is deliberately misleading and is worded to draw undeserved sympathy to those aliens who had entered the country illegally and did not meet the required qualifications for amnesty.

Note also Bush's fence-straddling when he wrote "but [I] do not support amnesty at this time" [emphasis added] In other words, he did not commit himself to the opposition of futureamnesties.

Bush also wrote that, if elected, he "will make INS reform a priority and will work to ensure that our nation's immigration laws are fairer, more effective and more humane." More humane? We already have the most liberal, humane immigration policy in the world. We need to lower the allowable numbers and enforce the laws.

As he ended his letter, Bush specifically asked for our "thoughts and ideas". It is, therefore, incumbent upon each and every member of AIC to write to President George W. Bush at the White House and state his or her "thoughts and ideas" about the colossal immigration crisis which is engulfing our great country.

Washington, D.C. 20002 Dear Bob, Thank you for your letter and interest in my position on immigration. I appreciate having the benefit of your views and have asked my policy staff to review the issues you raised. Of course, I continue to be strongly opposed to illegal immigration. I do not believe that taxpayers should have to bear the responsibility of financially supporting those who are in our country illegally. As Governor, I have often urged the federal government to do a better job of enforcing our borders. I support federal initiatives such as "Operation Hold-the-Line" - a program in El Paso, Texas designed to stop illegal immigrants before they can enter Texas cities. I also support sanctions for employers who continue to knowingly employ illegal workers. I understand, however, that too often the first experience of our nation's legal immigrants is one of frustration and anxiety, bureaucracy and endless lines. This is unacceptable, and that is why I proposed a comprehensive plan to reform the INS. Specifically, I will split the INS into two agencies to better serve those seeking American citizenship, and better enforce our borders. My plan insists on speedier turnaround of immigration applications and provides $500 million in increased INS funding over five years for services to legal immigrants. On the issue of late amnesty as it relates to the Latino and Immigrant fairness Act of 2000 - I support efforts to provide relief to those immigrants who were wrongly denied adjustment of status under the 1986 legislation, but do not support a blanket amnesty at this time. If I am fortunate enough to be elected President, I will make INS reform a priority and will work to ensure that our nation's immigration laws are fairer, more effective, and more humane.
